Thunder-end needle cage Rotax Max (20)
The Thunder-end needle cage (often referenced under the norm Hk1010, Ref. Rotax 232460) is a small needle bearing housed in the engine housing or launcher support. It receives the end of the electric starter shaft. Its role is crucial: it allows the tree to rotate at very high speed during the start phase with a minimum of friction, while supporting the radial stresses during the haling.
Complete description: why is this cage vital?
Even if it turns only a few seconds at each start, this part is subjected to tough test:
-
Friction reduction: By replacing a simple steel / aluminum friction with a needle bearing, it facilitates the work of the electric motor and preserves your battery.
-
Horing accuracy: It keeps the axis perfectly centered. If this cage takes play, the launcher shaft goes through and ends with "nibble" the teeth of the starter crown.
-
Compactness: Its design "needle socket" provides significant loads in an extremely small space.
-
Longevity of the crankcase: It avoids that the starter shaft does not come directly to the aluminum of the engine crankcase, which would make the engine block irreparable.
? Michel's trick
"This is the piece we forget all the time to grease! Every time you dismount your launcher or you clean your engine, put a small hazelnut of lithium fat inside. If it works dry, the needles will heat up, mark the axis, and your starter will start making a scrap stream. My advice: If you feel that your starter sentences or does an acute whistle, check this cage. If the needles fall when you remove the axis, change it immediately! "
? TUTO: Mounting and maintenance
-
Cleaning: Use a cotton swab with degreaser to clean the housing before inserting the new cage.
-
Insertion: The cage must be inserted straight. Use a bronze jet or a socket with an outside diameter of the cage to tap gently. Never hit the needles directly!
-
Lubrication: Once in place, garnish the clean grease inside (type XPS or universal grease of quality).
-
Inspection of the axis: Before going up the launcher, check that the end of the shaft is not blue or dug. If the axis is damaged, it will destroy your new cage in a few starts.
